Dear Colleagues,
My name ist Mohamed Abu Turay. I
am the Headteacher of the District Education Committee Forikolo. I am 35
years old. I am thrilled of your support to our school. My school can
now boast of learning and teaching materials despite the plethora of
problems we face.
Teachers likewise pupils are now taking classes in classrooms yet to be
finished and equipped. My school is also beginning to benefit from
recreational facilities such as swings, seasaw, high jump, table tennis,
volleyball and football fields under construction. The present layout is
actually fascinating. Parents have removed palm trees, stumps and
prepare the field for sporting activities.
Moreover, my school has six teachers, two trained and qualified and four
untrained and unqualified. These teachers are hard working and dedicated
to duty. Though they are facing some constraint in the teaching
profession. They are poorly paid and receive their monthly salaries very
late. They have many families to support in the areas of food, shelter,
clothing, education and medical care. Our salary per month is equivalent
to £35 a month. We go for several months without such pittances. Most
times our families are malnourished and drop out of high school. This is
purely because our monthly earning could not meet with our family
upkeeps.
Nevertheless teachers need to be mobile so as to be moving round
to the villages serviced by the school. Working on foot for eight, nine
kilometres is really tedious. We
really need to be mobile and require special support in the area of the
staff salary, first aid at school and agriculture. From my personal view
and interest, I would like us to build a better relationship. We can
start off exchange visit – coming to Germany and being part of the
teaching staff would be good for a few months.
On behalf of my teachers, pupils, parents and my personal self, I wish
to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to you, colleagues and
pupils. Wishing you all the best, warmest regards
Yours sincerely
Mohamed A. Turay
